A look at the West…

For our second blog post on MLS Fantasy preseason, let’s have a look at the franchise’s of the Western Conference and try to pick out who will be the Heavy-Hitters and who will be the differentials for the 11 sides in the West.

MLS Sounders Rapids Soccer

Colorado Rapids:

As we look down through the Colorado Rapids team for who are the Heavy Hitters when we consider the MLS Fantasy options. The first Heavy Hitter is their number one goalkeeper, the former Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard at $6.0 million, then in the defensive and midfield positions are Axel Sjoberg and Dillon Powers at $7.5 million and Marlon Hairston at $7.0, then finally at forward position we have the Albanian attacker Shkelzen Gashi at $9.5 million.

If you are on the lookout for differentials and this game means that you have to be, so let’s go for it. In defence, you want to go for Marc Burch at $5.5 or Eric Miller at $5.0. In midfield, you want to look at Sam Cronin at $6.5 and Michael Azira also at $6.5. Finally, you want to go for Kevin Doyle in the forward line at $8.0.

FC Dallas:

First of all two Heavy Hitters in defence that jump out at you are Walker Zimmerman and Matt Hedges, both at $6.5. In defence, the big Heavy-Hitter is Mauro Diaz at $10.0, watch out though at the minute, Diaz is considered injured and has a torn Achilles tendon. Up front for FC Dallas, you want to be looking at Max Urruti at $8.0.

Looking at possible differentials for FC Dallas, you want to be considering the likes of former Wigan defender Maynor Figueroa at $5.5 and Atiba Harris at $5.0. In midfield, two differential options to consider are: Michael Barrios at $8.0 and Javier Morales at $9.0. Finally, if you are looking for a Max Urruti alternative, then Tesho Akindele is a consideration.

Houston Dynamo:

There are no Heavy Hitters in the Houston Dynamo defence, but if are looking for alternatives then some of the differentials are as follows: AJ DelaGarza at $5.5, then Agustien Garcia, Dylan Remick and Jose Leonardo all at $5.0.

The Heavy Hitter in the Houston Dynamo midfield is Alex at $7.5. Then for alternatives you have Boniek Garcia at $7.0 and Andrew Wenger at $7.0. The Heavy Hitter and alternative in the Houston Dynamo midfield, you want to be looking at Erick Torres at $8.5 and Mauro Manotas at $8.0.

LA Galaxy:

This is going to be a big year for Los Angeles Galaxy, with all the changes that have gone on at the Californian franchise in the off-season. If you are looking for a stellar pick in the goalkeeper position then, we would like you to consider Brian Rowe at $5.5 as a Heavy Hitter keeper. In the defensive line-up for LA Galaxy two Heavy Hitter options to consider at Jelle van Damme and Daniel Steres at $6.0.

Two Heavy Hitter midfielders for the Galaxy would be Sebastian Lletget and Jermaine Jones both at $7.5 and $8.0 respectively. Up front, look no further than Gio dos Santos, the former Tottenham striker will be leading the front-line for the Galaxy, now with Robbie Keane gone.

As far as the differentials for the Galaxy go we will point you in the direction of: Robbie Rogers at $5.0 in the back-line. In the midfield, Baggio Husidic at $6.5 stands out as an alternative to the Heavy Hitters, then up front, why not consider Gyasi Zardes at $9.0 or Emmanuel Boateng at $6.5.

Minnesota United:

People may be done on Minnesota United and their players, but if you really want some Minnesota United coverage, then let us consider some of the following. In the goalkeeper position why not go for John Alvbage at $5.0. In the defence, why not consider Francisco Calvo at $6.0. In their midfield and forward line, Kevin Molino at $9.5 and Christian Ramirez at $8.0 are definite considerations.

The differentials for Minnesota United are Jermaine Taylor at $4.5 in defence. Collen Warner at $6.5, Joao Venegas at $7.5 and Miguel Ibarra at $8.0 are two considerations from the Minnesota United midfield. Up front, Femi Hollinger-Janzen at $5.0 is another consideration.

Portland Timbers FC:

Looking over the Portland Timbers goalkeeper and defensive line, these are all what is called budget options, good players to help fill your team roster, no Heavy Hitters at all. You have to look towards the midfield for options for Heavy Hitters, the first one is Argentine Diego Valeri at $10.0 – big bucks as you Americans like to call it.

One to watch in the Timbers midfield is former West Bromich Albion midfielder Sebastian Blanco at $9.0. A good Heavy Hitter option for Portland and the Opening weekend challenge is Fanendo Adi at forward at a healthy $9.5.

Since there are differentials a plenty in the back-line for Portland, we are not going to touch on them and Guy Sanchez recommends not touching the forwards other than Adi either, so we are going to focus our attention on the midfield.

Two differential options for Portland in the midfield are Darlinton Nagbe and Diego Chara at$8.5 and $7.0 respectively.

Real Salt Lake:

Boom, straightaway the first Heavy Hitter pick for Real Salt Lake is at goalkeeper with Nick Rimando up for consideration at $6.0. Just like in Portland though, all the defensive line are budget options, good picks but no standouts.

Three options though in defensive are: Demar Phillips and Tony Beltran at $5.0 and Chris Wingert at $4.5. In midfield, the Heavy Hitter is a new signing from FC Groningen, Albert Rusnak at $9.0, though he is unproven in the League. Two others to consider as differential options to Rusnak at Luis Silva, also a new signing at $7.5 and Kyle Beckerman at $7.0.

The Heavy Hitter and differential option for Real Salt Lake at the forward position are Joao Plata at $9.0 and Yura Movsisyan at $7.5.

San Jose Earthquakes:

Straightaway at goalkeeper position for a Heavy Hitter option is David Bingham at $6.0. In defence, the Heavy Hitter and proven in the League is Victor Bernardez at $5.5. In midfield, two Heavy Hitter options are Simon Dwakins at $7.5 and League proven, then a new signing in the form of Jahmir Hyka at $8.0, but not proven in the League.

At forward position on San Jose for a Heavy Hitter, where else do you look other can Chris Wondolowski at $8.5.

In the midfield for San Jose, differential options include: Darwin Ceren at $6.5, Shea Salinas at $7.0, Fatai Alashe at $6.5 and Anibal Godoy at $7.0. At forward position, he may be injured with a torn ACL, but Quincy Amarikwa at $6.5 is certainly a differential to Chris Wondolowski.

Seattle Sounders FC:

The MLS Cup Champions 2016, the holders of the MLS Cup. Heavy Hitters are abound at Seattle, starting with their goalkeeper Stefan Frei at $6.0. In their back-line then, you have Heavy Hitters of Chad Marshall at Erick “Kubo” Torres at £6.0 each. Their differentials would include Jovein Jones at $5.0 and Brad Evans at $5.5.

In the Seattle Sounders FC midfield, the two heavy hitters are priced at $11.0 and $9.0 respectively. Osvaldo Alonso and Nicolas Lodeiro are the two options for cash heavy MLS Fantasy managers here. Their three differential options are Cristian Roldan at $7.0, Harry Shipp also at $7.0 and Aaron Kovar at $4.5.

There are no differential picks in the Sounders attackers, it just depends on who you go for, the is either Jordan Morris at $9.0 or Clint Dempsey at $9.5.

Sporting KC:

Well, out of the gates here, the differential pick at goalkeeper for SKC is Tim Melia at $5.5. Same in the SKC defence, a lot of differential options such as: Saad Abdul-Salaam, Jimmy Medranda images-1and Ike Opara all at $5.0.

Benny Feilhaber at $11.0 is the Heavy Hitter option in the SKC midfield, while Graham Zusi and Roger Espinoza at $8.5 and $7.0 are both his differential options.

Dom Dwyer is the SKC heavy hitter forward and we would recommend that you not go for anyone else.

Vancouver Whitecaps:

All differential picks, we would recommend you not touch off Vancouver if you are a serious MLS Fantasy manager.
